Banpu considering US LNG productionBanpu Plc will study the feasibility of liquefied natural gas (LNG) production in the US with exports to other markets. "Banpu will add value to exploration and production for the oil and gas business from the LNG plan." Best known for coal and power generation, Banpu diversified into gas production in 2016 by purchasing natural gas reserves in Pennsylvania's Marcellus Shale. Christopher Kalnin, chief executive of Kalnin Venture, the oil and gas unit of Banpu, said the company would partner with Banpu on further investment if Banpu decided to run LNG production in the US. Revenue from coal sales is still Banpu's core competency, with forecast sales volume of 46.7 million tonnes in 2020, up from 45.7 million tonnes last year.
