Barbara Blake-Hannah: how Britain’s first black female TV reporter was forced off our screens


Blake-Hannah claims the Express held out only because “they had a rule: no Black people on the front page”. I didn’t know there was anything to compare to the Mona Lisa. I didn’t know anything about Africa. I didn’t know it at the time – I couldn’t say anything – but, looking at it now, it was really wrong. She is also part of Britain’s Black History Month curriculum and has received various lifetime achievement awards and an Order of Distinction from the Jamaican government.
