Barcelona say Liverpool wanted €200m for Philippe Coutinho on deadline day

Barcelona have claimed that Liverpool were prepared to sell Philippe Coutinho on Spain’s transfer deadline day for €200m (£183m), having previously firmly denied that they would contemplate selling the Brazil midfielder in this summer’s window. But within hours of the window closing in Spain on Friday night with no agreement being reached, Barcelona say they walked away after Liverpool placed a €200m price on their prized player. “Yesterday, at the last minute, after weeks of offers and conversations, Liverpool put a price on a player that we wanted,” said Albert Soler, the club’s sporting director. “[It was] a price of €200m and we decided not to do it. Barcelona found Liverpool unwilling to sell until, they claim, the final minutes of the transfer window.
