Basic income participants seek apology from Ford government for axing anti-poverty initiative


A small group gathered at local MPP Laurie Scott’s office for a sit-in Monday, the last day of the basic income payments. In 2016, the then-Wynne Liberal government announced it would be testing a new social program — basic income — in Hamilton, Lindsay and Thunder Bay. Bowman said she has talked to many community groups and there was “a very positive dialogue” that came out of the basic income issue. I invested a lot of the basic income to grow the business to be more self-sufficient.
