Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanouskaya says she fled to Lithuania for the sake of her children, after two nights of clashes following the contested re-election of President Alexander Lukashenko. Riot police detain a man during a rally of opposition supporters in Minsk who accuse Lukashenko of falsifying the polls in the presidential election. Twitter said on Monday: "We're seeing blocking & throttling of Twitter in #Belarus in reaction to protests contesting the election result. Her husband, Syarhei, had popularized a protest movement that compared Lukashenko to a cockroach character from a children's fairytale.
