Having a port open to an insecure service doesn’t mean that the server itself is insecure. A new “heat map of the internet” has revealed the countries most vulnerable to hacking attacks, by scanning the entire internet for servers with their front doors wide open. But, as Rapid7 explains, “the more services offered by a server or device, the greater the attack surface/exposure of that server or device”.
