The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, expressed grief, saying: “His passing marks the fall of a brilliant star in Bengali literature. Generation after generation of Bengali readers has been mesmerized by his creations.”Shankar’s accolades include the Sahitya Akademi Award (2003), the Banga Bibhushan, and other honors.
