Benidorm beaches already half full before main rush of Brit holidaymakers arrive

Tourism leaders are expecting a big increase in visitors once the travel situation between the UK and Spain becomes clearer. Benidorm's mayor, Toni Pérez says social distancing on the three main beaches is working well but at the request of hoteliers, businesses and local people, some changes would now be made. "Although these blue spaces are the ones with the most plots, we consider it advisable to increase them again." In the first two weeks after the beaches were reopened on Jun 15th, the number of people using Benidorm's beaches hit the 110,000 mark. The maximum occupation of the beach under the present zoning system is 33,000 which is about half the previous norm.
