Benin monarch tasks Nigerians in Diaspora on development


The royal father, who commended members of the group for the visit, urged them to always be good ambassadors of the country in their respective host countries and not forget their places of origin. Oba Ewuare II commended the members of EDOW for embarking on a number of projects, particularly the Diaspora Smart City, which when completed, would create about 20,000 new jobs for Nigerians. According to the monarch, the Edo State government needed helping hands in providing more jobs for its people, particularly the unemployed youths and the Libyan returnees in the state. Speaking, chairman of the group, Efosa Ogieriakhi, told the monarch and chiefs that its members visited the palace to pay homage and intimate the monarch on what the group was doing for Nigerians, particularly the Edo people. Ogieriakhi, a Berlin-based lawyer, told the Oba that the Diaspora Smart City at Avbiugo Community in Orhionmwon Local Council was aimed at industrialising and opening up rural communities in the state.He explained that the city would be a large settlement for Edo indigenes abroad and would serve both residential and industrial purposes.
