The consolidated budget bill containing six separate appropriation bills includes $45 million in cuts to the Department of Justice Antitrust Division. On Tuesday, Biden announced that the Antitrust Division would lead a strike force on unfair and illegal pricing along with the Federal Trade Commission. The budget bill, however, dilutes the law by putting a $233 million cap on funding for the Antitrust Division. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), a leading advocate of antitrust policy, opposes the cuts in the consolidated appropriations bill to the Department of Justice Antitrust Division.
