Neither man delivered a blow that would shake the base of the other — older black Democrats for Mr. Biden, younger progressives for Mr. Sanders. Mr. Sanders was much more skeptical, saying any bailout should be geared more toward families. Mr. Biden had long hinted that a woman would be his running mate but he appeared to catch Mr. Sanders off guard by making the vow on live TV. Mr. Sanders said that he was leaning toward that direction but hadn't made a final decision. The next batch of voting is Tuesday in Arizona, Florida, Ohio and Illinois — all states that favor Mr. Biden.
