Here, Sandra Slaats tells us about her American sycamore tree, a much-loved feature in her Burlington backyard, and the only sycamore listed on Burlington’s Honour Roll of Trees, according to the city’s website. ( Sandra Slaats photos )When I first came to look at the house, I noticed the tree right away; it was so big and striking. Back then, and before I made some changes, the backyard only had the sycamore tree, a concrete patio and a falling-down old metal shed in the corner. A small plaque on the tree's trunk lets people know the sycamore is on Burlington's Honour Roll of Trees. They say: “Oh, what a nice yard,” then, “Oh, wow, look at that tree.” Birds love this tree.
