Forty-four BlackBerrys, 70 computers and one $40 clock were among the items stolen from the federal government last year. The stolen phones cost the government just over $9,000, while the pilfered computers came with a price tag of nearly $74,000. The defence department recorded 88 thefts of military equipment, worth $14,000. The department also reported losses of $273,000 in combat clothing, $359,000 in military equipment and $140,000 in weapons and accessories. Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada reported losing one camera, one defibrillator, one gas monitor, two GPS units, a monitor, a printer and a shredder.
