Despite accounting for less than four per cent of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, Africa bears the brunt of the effects of climate change. In East Africa, scientists have been sounding the alarm about rising temperatures for years, warning of more frequent droughts. Between 2020 and 2023, the Horn of Africa experienced its worst drought in four decades, affecting Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya. With a warming of two degrees Celsius, crop yields across sub-Saharan Africa will fall by 10 per cent.
