Latinos are cheering the new superhero film “Blue Beetle” — and it’s not just because the title character defeats the bad guys. Not only that, but “Blue Beetle” features a mostly Latino cast, Latino writers and is helmed by a Latino director, creating a major milestone in Hollywood history. Xolo Maridueña plays the title character in “Blue Beetle,” which is being hailed as the first live-action superhero movie to star a Latino hero. The movie is being billed as the first live-action film to star a Latino superhero. Though the Blue Beetle is being celebrated as the first live action Latino superhero with a starring role, there have been previous Latino and Latina superheroes.
