Friday’s Russell Martin trade wasn’t the Blue Jays’ only order of business. The Jays also signed right-hander David Phelps in hopes of bulking up their bullpen. Veteran reliever David Phelps finished the 2017 season in Seattle before missing all of 2018 while recovering from Tommy John surgery. Last winter, they went to a hearing and Stroman was awarded $6.5 million after seeking $6.9 million. On Friday, the Jays said they expect him to be ready for opening day — March 28 against the Detroit Tigers.
