Blue Jays trade Russell Martin to Dodgers

The Toronto Blue Jays traded veteran catcher Russell Martin and cash considerations to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday for shortstop Ronny Brito and right-hander Andrew Sopko. Martin signed a five-year contract worth $82 million U.S. with the Jays in November 2014. Catcher Russell Martin returns to the team that drafted him, the Los Angeles Dodgers, after Friday’s trade with the Blue Jays. Without Martin, Toronto’s 40-man roster includes three catchers: Luke Maile, Danny Jansen and Reese McGuire. Martin was selected by the Dodgers in the 17th round of the 2002 MLB draft and spent the first five seasons of his career with the club.
