The discovery was made shortly before 10am on Saturday in Balbriggan, north of Dublin. Irish police have concerns about the wellbeing of the child's mother and are asking her to come forward. A police statement said: "Gardaí are investigating the discovery of the body of what appears to be a newborn baby (sex unknown at this point) on a beach at Balbriggan Co. Dublin. "Gardaí have concerns about the wellbeing of the child's mother and are asking her to come forward. "Gardaí are also appealing to anyone else with information to contact Balbriggan Garda Station on 01 8020510."
