Mr Macron and the Prime Minister watched a fly past by the Red Arrows and their French equivalent, La Patrouille de France, above Horse Guards Parade. Earlier this week, the UK and the bloc admitted “new momentum” was needed to strike agreement by the end of the year – a point Mr Johnson pressed to Mr Macron in No10. De Gaulle's Appeal is widely considered to be the origin of the French Resistance to the German occupation during the Second World War. Major Johanna Maljette read the General's famous address after the prince and Mr Macron left floral tributes to the former French president, laying wreaths at the statue. Mr Macron also awarded London France's highest order of merit, the Legion d'Honneur, in recognition of the city's support during the Second World War.
