Evans Chebet of Kenya, the defending champion, won the 2021 Boston Marathon, finishing in 2:05:54. Kipchoge was hoping to add a Boston Marathon victory to his running resume. The 12-time major marathon winner has won two Olympic gold medals and four of the six major marathons. He has never run in the New York Marathon, and Boston is now the only major marathon he has competed in but failed to win. Marcel Hug of Switzerland won the men’s wheelchair race, his sixth Boston Marathon victory, with an all-time course record time.
