Jose Antonio Dias Toffoli, the head of the court, sided with the Netflix streaming service yesterday after a temporary injunction banning the film was issued on Wednesday. “One cannot suppose that a humorous satire has the ability to weaken the values of the Christina faith, whose existence is traced back more than 2,000 years and which is the belief of the majority of Brazilian citizens,” Mr Toffoli wrote in his ruling. The film, entitled The First Temptation of Christ, was released on December 3 and drew fierce criticism from Brazil’s Christian community and conservative politicians.
