Newcastle Falcons may have suffered a first league defeat since returning to the Gallagher Premiership but they provided more evidence that they will be no pushovers for the rest of the division this season. On a bitterly cold day at Ashton Gate, Dean Richards will have known that this was a game his team should have won. They more than held their own and scored three tries through George Wacokecoke, Mark Wilson and Philip van der Walt, and yet cruelly ended up with nothing. Bristol came away with the spoils but Pat Lam’s Bears were pushed all the way by a spirited Newcastle side, who, on the evidence of the season so far, will almost certainly not make an immediate return to the Greene King
