SEPANG: Malaya, now Malaysia, has always been regarded a second home for most British Voluntary Veterans who fought and safeguarded the country during the time of the Communist insurgency and Indonesia-Malaysia confrontation. Michael Dennis Smith, 70, who served in the Royal Army in 1966, was thrilled to be in Malaysia for its diamond jubliee celebration come Thursday. Smith, who currently resides in Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom will be taking part in the national day parade in Dataran Merdeka. "This is the Malaysia I love, where the people never fail to show love and care to whomever seeks it," he added. On Friday, they are expected to leave for Penang for a short getaway before leaving for London on Sept 12.
