Bruno Fernandes outlines referee conversation after Man Utd's controversial opener

Edinson Cavani treated the 10,000 returning fans at Old Trafford to a sumptuous chip from distance in the opening exchanges. The goal was given by the on-field officials after Fernandes appeared to flick on a forward ball from United keeper David de Gea. When De Gea played the ball out of his penalty area, Cavani was clearly offside, only to arc his run when officials thought Fernandes had touched it. But Fernandes revealed that referee Lee Mason, who will become a full-time VAR next season, adjudged him to have touched the ball. The fourth official said if Fernandes hasn't touched it he's five yards offside.
