Your team needs to stay motivated to continue their education in business practices, technology and methodology. When deciding which is more important, existing skill set or the teachability of a candidate, I have to ask myself about the position being filled. Some slots at a company stay fairly stagnant despite the technological innovation throughout the company. If they are constantly out of reach, team members will get exhausted and feel unaccomplished. But if the bar is kept too low, a feeling of not contributing to the greater good can set in.
