Bukusu leaders rescind decision to postpone male circumcision events

By BRIAN OJAMAA More by this AuthorThis year’s Bukusu traditional circumcision exercises will start from August 1. Bungoma chairman of circumcisers Sinino Wo Omukolongolo said the community has rescinded an earlier decision to postpone the exercise to 2022 following the outbreak of the new coronavirus. “Bukusu traditional experts gave us the go ahead to prepare for the fete. “We realised that many people were circumcising their teenage boys in hospitals and this will eventually kill our tradition,” he said. The Bukusu circumcision is one of Kenya’s most-anticipated traditional ceremonies and attracts more than 40,000 tourists, both local and foreign.
