Business secretary suggests ministers could quit over no-deal Brexit

The business secretary has indicated the he and other ministers would feel unable to remain in a government that recommended a no-deal Brexit should Theresa May fail to get her revised agreement through parliament. Greg Clark told MPs on the business select committee that “he had always strongly expressed the view” that the UK needed to leave the European Union with a Brexit deal agreed. Clark said the package of state aid that was agreed for Nissan was applied for by the company – and not by the department – and was “scrutinised independently”. Toyota’s executive vice-president, Shigeki Tomoyama, said the company wanted Britain “to avoid a no-deal Brexit at any cost”. Aerospace companies were the other principal beneficiaries of state aid, Clark indicated.
