DESPITE the detection of the Delta variant in Calapan City, data from the City Health and Sanitation Department (CHSD) shows that the number of cases in the city is decreasing. According to the social media page of the Calapan City Health Task Force, a body formed by City Mayor Arnan Panaligan that monitors Covid-19 infections in the city, as of August 14 there are only 87 positive Covid-19 cases in the city. The numbers had not been more than 100 since August 9, the same data shows. Also, the vaccination of many people including senior citizens and other at-risk sectors contributed to the decline of the number of infections, Panaligan said. The city government, meanwhile, is currently undergoing a comprehensive contact tracing up to the third degree of exposure with the patient detected with the Delta variant from Barangay Guinobatan
