The increase that the judges are getting is exactly the same pay increases every other public servant got last October, with the exception of ministers who declined it. A Department of Public Expenditure spokesperson said the pay increase is the 2pc that all public servants have received since October 1. The spokesperson said that once pay is gradually restored to pre-Fempi levels, such orders will no longer be required as judges' pay will automatically move in line with other public servants.
