Cahya Mata Sarawak cites ongoing legal issues in decision to recuse Abu Bekir from board meetings

KUALA LUMPUR (April 10): Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd (KL:CMSB) has maintained its stance on the exclusion of Datuk Seri Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib from certain board and committee meetings, noting that this was necessary. In a bourse filing on Thursday, CMSB said the recusal was required because the meetings involved matters connected to ongoing legal proceedings, including those involving Mahmud Abu Bekir, the company and certain subsidiaries. CMSB’s response arrives after Bursa Malaysia Securities’ request for additional information, following Mahmud Abu Bekir’s affidavit in support of an origination summons filed at the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak. On April 2, Mahmud Abu Bekir, the company’s former deputy chairman, filed a lawsuit against CMSB and 10 others, as he sought court declarations regarding his role as a director. He also requested access to past board minutes and for future agendas to indicate which matters would require him to step aside.
