California vs. Trump: New state laws take on climate change and White House energy agenda


The Trump administration and lawmakers in California have seemingly been at odds from the day the president took office. “Today, California’s message to the Trump administration is simple: Not here, not now,” Brown said at the signing of SB 834 and AB 1775. “The bills are intended to make it difficult to bring any new oil to shore, so it makes any new offshore oil drilling unlikely. California banned offshore drilling in state waters out to three miles back in 1994 and there haven’t been any new platforms built in the last 30 years. It is also one of 17 states suing the Trump administration over the rollback.
