Canada Post union to start overtime ban for workers in N.W.T., Alberta

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers says it will ban overtime for its workers in the Northwest Territories and Alberta starting Monday morning if the union and Canada Post can't come to an agreement. The union issued a 72-hour strike action notice Thursday, but the action announced Sunday will be limited to an overtime ban. The union said it wants to assure Canadians the overtime ban won't affect mail delivery. In the release, the union says Canada Post needs to build routes that fit into a typical, eight-hour shift "instead of overburdening workers." The union plans to alternate its overtime ban between different provinces and territories each day in the coming week.
