Canada Retail Sales Fell in December

OTTAWA—Canadian retail sales declined in December for the first time in four months, falling short of expectations on lower sales at general merchandise, electronics, and health and personal-care stores. The value of retail sales in December fell 0.8% on a seasonally adjusted basis to 49.65 billion Canadian dollars ($39.18 billion), Statistics Canada said Thursday, following a revised 0.3% gain in the previous month.
