The West's belated, rather united outrage toward the obscenities of the Saudi regime is a good example of that phenomenon. The announcement of sanctions against the 17 Saudi nationals has renewed calls for Canada to suspend or even cancel its export of light-armoured vehicles and other military equipment to Saudi Arabia. 2:41One could argue that $1 billion is a relatively small price to pay to cleanse Canada's foreign policy of one particularly odious entanglement. The cancellation of the Saudi arms deal would deliver another blow the region, and make for a banner year of manufacturing job losses in southern Ontario. It is morally unimportant compared to the types of grotesque human rights violations we're talking about with the Saudi regime.
