As U.S. President Donald Trump moves to banish transgender troops from the ranks, Canada's military is welcoming such recruits with revamped policies that promote equality, respect and accommodation. Canada's policy is in sharp contrast to the U.S., where Trump ordered a ban on transgender members "in any capacity" in 2017. When Trump announced the ban, the CAF tweeted its pro-LGBT position. Canada's new policy stresses every CAF member has a right to define their own gender identity. The military does not track statistics on how many members identify as transgender.
