Canterbury DHB drops long-standing contract, brings food preparation in-houseIAIN MCGREGOR/FAIRFAX NZ Food preparation is moving in-house at Christchurch Hospital and other CDHB facilities after it dropped a long-standing contract with Medirest. Food at Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB) facilities will be prepared in-house after it declined to renew a long-standing contract with a private company used by other health boards across the country. Compass Group subsidiary Medirest held the contract to provide meals for the CDHB's patients, staff and public cafes since 2004. CDHB chief executive David Meates announced in September last year that the board would no longer sign up to the national food service contract, and on Friday said the CDHB would take over management of all food services. "Our food service enjoys high levels of customer satisfaction and we won't be doing anything to jeopardise the quality of food or service.
