Thanks to the exceptionally good weather over the weekend, the beaches in Counties Louth and East Meath were more reminiscent of the Costa Brava than the East Coast of Ireland, with thousands of families flocking to enjoy the sun and sea. 'There was very inconsiderate parking and people were unable to use the footpaths and forced onto the roads, but it was not as bad as years ago even when cars could park on the beach, and just like a busy race day when cars were not allowed on the beach,' said a spokesperson for the Beach Management Committee Laytown Bettystown Mornington. 'At least now there are car park options and oddly most weren't full - Funtasia is €4 a day and it was half empty - because people don't know it's there. 'Still it's a small price to pay for a few hours on a few days of the year to see such happiness and safety on the beach, which has now been transformed to a family space'.
