Celebrating African greatness, as Joseph premieres in Lagos

Joseph left a successful career in medicine in Jamaica to fulfill his grandfather’s desire and promise made to him before his death and ultimately his purpose by reconnecting with his roots in Asante, Ghana to find his true identity. Shot in Jamaica, Barbados, and across West Africa, Joseph touches a gamut of relatable subject areas, from parental pressure and societal expectations, to sibling rivalry, love, deception, cultural boundaries, acceptance, and freedom. The film featured Nollywood favourites, Mawuli Gavor, Sika Osei, and Jamaican actor, Kevoy Burton, who played the lead role. With successful cinema openings in the Caribbean and Ghana, the larger-than-screen production is aimed at addressing misconceptions about Africa fed by global media while observing the many similarities between life in the Caribbean and West Africa. Now in cinemas nationwide, Joseph has been selected for screening at the largest Black film festival in the USA, the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles, which is scheduled to hold from February 11-23.
