Celtic icon Frank McGarvey was told he was "fit as a fiddle" by doctors just weeks before he died from pancreatic cancer, his family has revealed. But his daughter Jenny Kane has said he was "palmed off" by GPs who did not think he was terminally ill. Just 10 per cent of pancreatic cancer cases are diagnosed in time for surgery and the five-year survival rate is just 7.3 per cent - a figure that has barely moved for 50 years. While inflammation was found in his sternum, the former footballer was told "you're as fit as a fiddle". The McGarvey family is backing the #Missed campaign by Pancreatic Cancer Action Scotland.
