Chandigarh lockdown: Non-essential shops to remain closed on weekends

After Haryana, the Chandigarh administration has also decided to close all shops in the city except essential services on Saturday and Sunday, till further order, the administration of the Union Territory has said. Earlier in the day, an order issued by Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij said, "All offices and shops except essential will remain closed in Haryana on every Saturday and Sunday due to COVID-19." This comes a day after Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday ordered a series of emergency measures to check the spread of novel coronavirus in the state. "Enough is enough," said Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday, adding that "we need to be tough without affecting the state`s economic activity." Won't hesitate to take harsher measures after August 31, if needed to check COVID19 spread, Amarinder Singh warned, according to a statement by his media advisor.
