The two-time Chelsea boss introduced Zouma into the first team during his second stint at Stamford Bridge in 2014 and he’s twice attempted to sign the Frenchman since, first at Manchester United in 2018 and again at Tottenham in 2020. Mourinho has now returned to Serie A with Roma in the Italian capital and he’s keen to pair Zouma with former Manchester United ace Chris Smalling in the heart of his defence. The decision to ostracise Fazio but could be in part down to Mourinho’s desire to sign Zouma.
