Chimerica, the intertwined manufacturing colossus that boomed across the Pacific from the early 1990s, looked far past its prime even before the pandemic. The effect of pandemic-related shortages will deal another serious wound to the framework. Outside of the high-value semiconductor manufacturing that has been the centerpiece of discussions of decoupling, economic disengagement will ripple across a variety of sectors and countries in different ways.
