As if that was not already long enough, the thought of the party staying in power for another 54 years? The question now is, why has one one-party rule survived (indeed thrived) in China, and failed in Africa? The intriguing point for us in Nigeria, and Africa, is why our own experiment with one-party rule did not yield benefits. Furthermore, one-party rule in China is made possible by the fact that its 1.4 billion citizens are (almost) homogenous. One party rule would work in Africa if the people made a choice to have less say in political decision-making.
