Two Chinese companies have signed a contract to supply solar panels to and do the EPC work on the 200MW Kom Ombo project in Egypt. The 200MW utility-scale solar plant is expected to be operational by early next year. The plant will contribute to the Egyptian government’s target to generate 42% of the country’s electricity from renewable energy sources by 2035. A monofacial solar panel only absorbs sunlight from the front surface of the solar panel while the bifacial solar panel features solar cells on both sides. Egypt’s 2035 Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy, which builds on previous strategies, emphasises the importance of renewable energy.
