Eugene Fontaine, Tina Fontaine’s father, was living on the streets of Winnipeg at 12. Tina Fontaine was born on New Year’s Day 1999. Manitoba claims 11,623 missing children; Ontario, 11,025. What is abundantly clear is that the government will come to regret this decision when the next Jeffrey Baldwin, Katelynn Sampson or Tina Fontaine hits the news. The child advocate might not have been able to save that next child’s life, any more than it saved theirs.
