Christchurch earthquake anniversary: Memorial service honours the fallen, 185 names read by first responders


The memorial service, held at held at Oi Manawai, The Canterbury Earthquake National Memorial, started at 12.30pm. First responders and members of the community then read the names of the 185 victims as they appear on the memorial wall. A poignant poemFollowing the sad reading of the names, Julie Hibbs and Vanessa McGregor read a poem at the service. Today we remember the 185 people who lost their lives on 22.01.2011As at February 9, 2012, the official earthquake toll was 185 victims. Reta STEWART, age 81 (female) of ChristchurchIris BOTTING, age 88 (female) of ChristchurchElizabeth SINCLAIR, age 76 (female), of ChristchurchPamela Christina BARKLE, age 72 (female), of ChristchurchFour victims were unable to be identified.
