Sales before Christmas rose by 7.9 per cent, although this was slower than its growth rate throughout 2018 AlamyAldi’s Christmas sales topped £1 billion for the first time, driven by demand for alcoholic drinks, premium products and fresh British meat. The German discount grocer said that sales were up 7.9 per cent year-on-year for the four weeks to 24 December. The supermarket group said that it remained on track to achieve its long-term target of 1,200 stores by 2025. The privately owned retailer has been operating in Britain for 30 years and its growth has accelerated dramatically in the past five. It stocks a limited range of about 2,000 products in stores run on an efficient model to keep prices low.
