The city administration subsequently announced that “all holy sites in the Old City of Jerusalem, including the Western Wall, the Temple Mount and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, will remain closed … for security reasons in light of the current tensions in the region”. With diminishing prospects of a halt to hostilities before the Latin Church celebrates Palm Sunday on March 29, the churches that share the Holy Sepulchre – Catholic, Greek Orthodox, Armenian Apostolic, Coptic, Syriac and Ethiopian Orthodox – have reportedly begun preparations for limited Holy Week celebrations.
