Colby Cosh: Don't sneer at #metoo. Consider whether a little male self-criticism is warranted

Maybe this just means “I am a human being.” But I don’t think it’s that simple. Men, considered collectively, introduce a certain character, a tinge of dread and weirdness and toxicity, to women’s personal histories. So I don’t sneer at the #metoo social media exercise, even though not all the stories rise to the gruesome level of the Hollywood Babylon revelations that inspired it, and some are just accounts of awkward social interactions. I take the point to be that things are capital-D Different for women, and that it’s important for men to know it. I do not sneer at the #metoo social media exerciseEven crummy little nugatory incidents or failures of etiquette count, because it is the aggregate quantity that is important.
