“Meet the Scabs” is a one-minute video produced by the labour union Unifor as a tactical move in a fight that will observe its second anniversary in December. A judge issued an injunction to stop the locked-out employees on the picket line from delaying vehicles entering and leaving the factory. Unifor published only faces and names, including images of the replacement workers crossing the picket line. The picket line, under our law, isn’t supposed to interfere with the operations of a business, or even with the comings and goings of scabs. The company could always solve its labour problem by closing the facility and kissing Newfoundland goodbye, but it has chosen to train replacement workers instead.
